The default setting of this tool is "broad" and while that can be good when you're trying to figure out which keywords to focus on for an article or other piece of content, it isn't going to help you target your ads effectively. The reason these searches won't work is because they are inflated to include even vague phrases that include a particular keyword. To help your ads end up on the right pages, you need to make sure the search parameters are very narrow. Make sure that you are using the "exact" search results setting, not broad or phrase match. Another problem that many people have is using the disallow feature instead of the noindex feature. Though similar, these features are not the same. If the page is disallowed, the spiders cannot crawl it. But noindex does. This means that, even if you aren't trying to rank for a particular page the spiders can still see what's there and make sure that your site earns rank for the keywords it contains - particularly where your Meta tags are concerned. On the other hand, if Google cannot crawl your page, your site can actually fall in the search engine rankings. This is not something you want to occur!
Not customizing your content to the vocabulary your customers use. The content that you use and the keywords are very important. You should not use "insider" language on your site as most people will not know what you're talking about. If you target your SEO around industry insider terms and words you won't get nearly as many eyes on your page. It's better to plan your SEO around the way your customers and clients think and speak. Just use keywords they would search for. Your page rank will be much better.
